So, hey. Kidnapped huh. [Kidnapped again, more like it. He leans back and strokes his lack of beard, allowing the rest of his face to be seen. There's a Sentret flopped over his shoulder like a pancake.]

This is a lot better than most kidnappings I've been to. I even get a free--uh, I'm not sure what this is. [He checks out that Sentret. It's a little familiar to him but not quite enough. Like a squished fire ferret.] Yeah, I don't know. But he is adorable! Don't tell Pabu I said that.

[The Sentret makes some little squeaky noises from his shoulder.]

Ahh, guys! It's assaulting me with cuteness! Do you think I should name him?

Do you know what you can eat then?

No, you can't eat them. It's like trying to eat a rock. I buy a lot of meat when I go through a town and eat that along with whatever plants I find while I'm walking. It takes three days to walk from New Bark Town to Cherrygrove City though, and there aren't any stores in New Bark Town, so you have to eat the plants that you find on the way if you don't want to go hungry.

I've been asking but no one else is as woodsy as you.

I might not have my bending anymore, but I can make it to Cherrygrove City even if I don't have anything to eat.

...it'd be nice to know what I can, though. [His stomach is already grumbling oh why did he eat everything already?]

[You have a Sentret and you seem like you'll be treating it well, so he'll take a risk and give you some advice. Remember how he got up and started to walk a few tags ago? He stops walking and points the camera at some ferns.]

Plants like these are edible. [The camera swings around for a bit before coming to rest on some mushrooms.] Apparently there aren't any poisonous mushrooms here. I know for sure that these ones are safe for humans. [He moves around for a bit longer, showing Bolin various herbs, mostly ones that are common or are easy to identify.]

[Bolin watches intently until he's done.]

Okay, I got it. I think. Yeah, no worries, I wouldn't get sick and let this little guy have to fend for himself.

He'd be able to find food on his own if you weren't around, but if you're going to travel with him you have to look after him.

He does seem pretty smart.

And of course I'm going to look after him! I'm already thinking of names.

Pokémon seem to be smarter than the animals where I'm from. They can definitely understand more complicated things when I talk to them.

Pabu's pretty smart, but he's special. I trained him all sorts of things.

Who's Pabu? And what kind of things did you teach him?

Pabu's a fire ferret, he's my partner. And I taught him acrobatics and how to chew through rope and all sorts of things.

Why did you teach him things like that?

For fun! And so he could perform for people. We made a killing on the streets doing that.

[Well. A couple coins, anyway.]

Killing? Why were you killing? [What is slang can he eat it?]

No, I mean we made money!

By killing things?

No, by doing tricks! I mean, he did the tricks, not me. But I taught him.

Why would him doing tricks get you money?

Because people pay money for entertainment? We'd perform in the streets for money sometimes.

I'm a pro-athlete too, so you could say I perform in the arena.

Why? You can have fun without spending money.

What's a pro-athlete do?

You might as well say you can eat without spending money, but people still like high-end restaurants!

We fight using our bending. People like cheering us on, and they get all pumped up just watching. You should see us in action! We've got the avatar on our team!

What's bending? You keep talking about it.

I don't know what an avatar is.

It's when ... you know, you have an element, and you can move it. Just move it. I'm an earthbender, so I can move earth. And the avatar can move everything because she's special.

We fight with our bending, one of each on each team except no airbenders 'cause there's only one family of them. My brother's our firebender and Korra--the avatar--is our waterbender.

What's so special about that? Anyone can pick up earth and move it. Same with the others if you pick up a burning log or cup you hands or wave your arms really fast.

Well, technically by doing forms, but you know. Also with our minds.

That doesn't seem like it would work.

[Ironically enough, this is coming from someone who, soon after they return home, will telekinetically pick up a lake and throw it on a forest fire.]
