Helloooooo, not Republic City!

So, hey. Kidnapped huh. [Kidnapped again, more like it. He leans back and strokes his lack of beard, allowing the rest of his face to be seen. There's a Sentret flopped over his shoulder like a pancake.]

This is a lot better than most kidnappings I've been to. I even get a free--uh, I'm not sure what this is. [He checks out that Sentret. It's a little familiar to him but not quite enough. Like a squished fire ferret.] Yeah, I don't know. But he is adorable! Don't tell Pabu I said that.

[The Sentret makes some little squeaky noises from his shoulder.]

Ahh, guys! It's assaulting me with cuteness! Do you think I should name him?

Do tricks?

I've been working at PokéCenters in the towns when I need money. You can't eat any of the animals here, so the only way to get meat is to buy it from the stores. No one can tell me where that meat comes from though.

Yeah, he can do all sorts of things, like acrobatics! But I can work at a--whatever that is if they'll hire me.

What? I couldn't eat them anyway! [Hold on while he hugs his Sentret to himself. Bolin is not a hunt and kill type of guy.]

They let me work there, even though I didn't know what anything inside did. It sounds like they will let anyone work there.

You need to eat meat to live, don't you? Or were you not a human before you came here?

I don't need it, I can live on ramen if I have to. I mean I couldn't ... y'know, kill anything.

Ramen? Whatever that is, if it doesn't have a lot of meat in it I don't think it will keep you healthy.

Someone has to kill animals so you can eat them. It's better if you kill them yourself, so that you know that they didn't suffer when they died.

Anyone who wasn't a human before they came here becomes a human when they get here. I've talked to someone who used to be a "pony" and someone who used to be a "troll", but they're both humans here.

Maybe, but sometimes you don't have a lot of options. Or any.

[He scrubs the back of his neck.] Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't know how! You have butchers who, I mean, it's their job to know how to do that. It's best to let them do their job, right?

I've always had to hunt animals if I wanted to eat. I look for edible plants while I'm hunting, but I mostly eat meat.

Everyone should know how to feed themselves. It doesn't make sense to rely on other people to get you food all the time.

I've lived in the city all my life, so there aren't any animals to hunt. Aside from squirrels, I guess.

Sure it does! I mean, it's worked up until now.

Squirrels taste good. I like deer and boar better, but all meat tastes good. Except the meat for the stores. It doesn't have much flavor. [He's used to meat being really gamey.]

How is it working now? [His tone is along the lines of how you'd walk a child through what they did wrong in their homework when their mistake is incredibly basic and they're not seeing it.]

I haven't heard of those but I can't imagine squirrel tastes very good.

No one expects to be kidnapped in their sleep and left in the middle of nowhere. Not my fault.

[The camera shakes as he stands up and starts to walk.] You would be prepared if the people who you get food from weren't able to give you any. If one of them was injured while they were getting food they wouldn't be able to bring you any while they were healing.

So you know how to tell if a plant is safe to eat then? Some of the things here that look like they would be good to eat will make you sick if you're not a Pokémon.

[He has a good idea what the answer to that question is.]

[It seems someone has warned him already. At least he won't have to suffer through that.]

Do you know what you can eat then?

No, you can't eat them. It's like trying to eat a rock. I buy a lot of meat when I go through a town and eat that along with whatever plants I find while I'm walking. It takes three days to walk from New Bark Town to Cherrygrove City though, and there aren't any stores in New Bark Town, so you have to eat the plants that you find on the way if you don't want to go hungry.

I've been asking but no one else is as woodsy as you.

I might not have my bending anymore, but I can make it to Cherrygrove City even if I don't have anything to eat.

...it'd be nice to know what I can, though. [His stomach is already grumbling oh why did he eat everything already?]

[You have a Sentret and you seem like you'll be treating it well, so he'll take a risk and give you some advice. Remember how he got up and started to walk a few tags ago? He stops walking and points the camera at some ferns.]

Plants like these are edible. [The camera swings around for a bit before coming to rest on some mushrooms.] Apparently there aren't any poisonous mushrooms here. I know for sure that these ones are safe for humans. [He moves around for a bit longer, showing Bolin various herbs, mostly ones that are common or are easy to identify.]
